For the third time in two months, 14-year-old Elliot Leasure has smashed the 13-14 National Age Group record in the boys’ 100 back, throwing down a blazing time of 54.92 at the Junior National Championships en route to winning the meet title in the event.

Leasure, who swims for Rochester Swim Club, shaved just over three-tenths of a second off his former lifetime best and NAG record, which he set less than a week ago at the Minnesota 11-14 Long Course State Championships.

Leasure first broke the NAG record barely two months ago at the AQJT Summer Spectacular in early June, when he clocked a time of 55.86 and became the first 13-14 swimmer in NAG to history to break 56 seconds in the 100 back. Prior to Leasure’s performance at the meet, the 13-14 NAG record stood at 56.36 and was set by Thomas McMillan from 2024.

A year ago Leasure held a personal best time of 57.78 in the 100 back. He has now cracked the 56-second barrier three times in the span of two months and is the fastest 13-14 boy in NAG history by almost one-and-a-half seconds in this event. McMillan still sits in the #2 all-time spot in the age group.

Taking out his race in 26.68 Thursday evening, Leasure was 3rd at the 50-meter mark before coming home in 28.24 to overtake Grant Bellin and Benjamin Jaggers for the Junior National title. Leasure narrowly secured the victory in the event, getting his hand on the wall just .11 ahead of Belling (55.03).

Leasure’s record-setting win in the 100 back marks his second NAG record of the competition. The first night of racing saw him take 3rd-place in the boys’ 50 back in 25.76, shaving .23 off his own 13-14 NAG record in the event (25.99) from July.

Leasure also placed 5th in the 200 back (2:01.06) earlier this week, which marked the 4th-fastest performance of all-time in the 13-14 age group.
