Postseason play on the horizon for Alabama men’s tennis ...Middle East

News by : (The Crimson White) -

After finishing its regular season in a 2-5 loss to Mississippi State on Sunday, Alabama men’s tennis is now looking toward postseason play.

The 2026 SEC Men’s Tennis Championship will be held April 15-19 at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. The event is a 15-team, single-elimination tournament with seeding based on regular-season conference standings.

“It should be a great tournament as all of the schools in the SEC have had such competitive matches this year. We look forward to the challenge and opportunity ahead,” Head Coach George Husack said following the Mississippi State match.

With a 3-11 record in SEC play, Alabama is the 13-seed in the tournament. The team is set to face 12-seed Vanderbilt, which won 4-0 in an April 10 matchup, in the first round on Wednesday. The winner of that match advances to play 5-seed Texas A&M.

At 12-16 overall, the Crimson Tide are unlikely to receive a bid to the NCAA Team Championships, barring an improbable tournament run. However, several players will have a chance at receiving bids to the NCAA Individual Championships. The date of the individual championships has not yet been announced.

In doubles, the tandem of senior Andrii Zimnokh and freshman Vit Kalina is ranked No. 10 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The duo has posted a 9-4 record this season, which includes top-20 wins over Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. With a 32-team field, the pair’s strong resume is likely to earn them a bid.

In singles, Kalina and sophomore Matic Kriznik are ranked No. 92 and No. 88 in the country, respectively. Kalina went 10-8 this spring, securing top-40 wins over Georgia and Kentucky in the process. Kriznik qualified for last season’s NCAA Individual Championships, where he fell to Wake Forest’s DK Suresh in the first round. This season, he secured a 12-8 record while playing primarily at No. 2 singles.

With more work to be done, the SEC Championships will provide a valuable opportunity for Alabama’s top players to strengthen their cases for NCAA individual bids.
