For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Two-time Iowa high school state champion Natalie Patee has announced her commitment to swim for the University of Arkansas beginning in the fall of 2026. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Arkansas!! I want to thank my family who has sacrificed so much to help me get to where I am today, all of the coaches who been with me throughout this journey, and my teammates for being so supportive and encouraging! A huge thank you to Coach Neil and Coach Chris for giving me such an amazing opportunity to do what I love at the next level! I can’t wait to see what the next four years hold! Go Razorbacks!
The South Dakota native is a senior at Sioux City North/West High School, where she competed for the varsity swimming and diving team all four years. A versatile threat in the pool, Patee currently swims year-round with the Siouxland Wave Aquatic Team and excels at freestyle, backstroke, and short IM.
At the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union State Championships in November, Patee broke through with a pair of individual state titles in the 200 free (1:49.66) and 500 free (4:55.89), building upon a steady progression from a ‘B’ finalist as a freshman to a mid-pack ‘A’ finalist as a sophomore and junior. She also helped Sioux City place fourth in the 400 free relay (50.61 anchor) and sixth in the 200 free relay (23.84 PB leadoff).
Patee followed that meet up with another strong showing at Speedo Sectionals in West Fargo last month, where she logged four new personal bests. She finished third in the 200 IM (2:04.97 – PB) and 100 free (50.94 – PB), fourth in the 200 free (1:50.10), eighth in the 200 back (2:02.18 – PB) and 400 IM (4:32.95), 11th in the 100 back (57.08 – PB), and 14th in the 50 free (24.08).
Patee has consistently improved her lifetime bests season over season, dropping from 24.18/51.70/1:51.98/4:58.63 in the freestyle events, 57.47/2:05.12 in backstroke, and 2:07.21 in the 200 IM a year ago. That progression bodes well as she transitions to collegiate swimming.

To earn a second swim at the meet, it took times of 22.59/49.08/1:46.80/4:48.60 in the 50/100/200/500 free, 53.78/1:56.82 in the 100/200 back, and 2:00.73 in the 200 IM, putting Patee outside the cutoff in each of her top events.
On the team itself, Patee is positioned to be a strong contributor for the Razorbacks next season. She is poised to rank third in the 500 free, fourth in the 200 IM, sixth in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 200 back, and eighth in the 100 back, putting her in a position to be a valuable dual meet contributor.
Currently set to join Patee in Fayetteville this fall are breaststrokers Rachel McAlpin, Ellery Chandler, and Evelyn Jezerinac, along with sisters Riley Gibson (fly) and Hayden Gibson (back/free). H. Gibson is primarily a backstroker with bests of 53.0/1:52.8, but also owns freestyle times of 24.18/51.57/1:50.78/4:57.17 that closely mirror Patee’s.
