Richard Henry was elected to the Tuscaloosa City Council to fill the vacant District 3 spot. The seat was previously held by Norman Crow, who was elected to the Alabama’s House of Representatives’ 63rd district in a special election on Jan. 13.

“Thank you to everyone who voted, supported this campaign, and encouraged me along the way,” said Henry in a Facebook post. “I’m honored by the opportunity to serve and ready to get to work!”

Henry received 1,389 votes, defeating his opponent, Doug Parrish, who received 469 votes, according to unofficial results from the City of Tuscaloosa.

“I am incredibly grateful for every person who supported this campaign—our volunteers, my fiancée, my family, and the many new friends I gained along the way,” said Parrish in a Facebook post. “Your encouragement, prayers, and belief in me meant everything. Win or lose, I stand proud because I stepped into the arena.”

Henry will be sworn in next Tuesday at the City Council meeting.
