News10NBC’s Declan Stablow was at the scene. Rochester Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Vinci told him the fire started on the back porch and extended through the second floor and out of the roof. Besides the dogs that died, there were no other reported injuries.
The back of the house was heavily charred, especially on the first floor. There were broken windows on both sides of the house.
Fire officials said they first got to the scene around 10:15 a.m. and it took them less than half an hour to get the fire under control. The fire also started to spread to a neighbor’s house. That owner, Christine, said luckily, the damage wasn’t that extensive. She said she heard popping sounds before she saw the fire and called 911.
“The whole back of the house was engulfed in flames in a matter of seconds. In a matter of seconds. There was a sound of a lot of, like, small an explosion. Kind of sounds like a pop pop pop pop pop pop. And, just the just thick black smoke billowing out of everything,” said Christine.
Deputy Chief Vinci said the cause is still under investigation.
We reached out to RFD on if the family will still be able to live in the house after the damage caused by the fire.
