The 2026 Irish Open Championships and Commonwealth Games Trials wrapped up its final night of action from the Aurora Sports & Leisure Centre, but not before a national record was set in the men’s 200m IM.

Racing in the final of the event this evening, 22-year-old Jack Cassin notched a time of 2:01.00 to take the 2IM gold, erasing the former Irish standard in the process.

The previous national record stood at the 2:01.52 Brendan Hyland put on the books at this 2019 edition of this competition.  That means Cassin knocked over half a second off that standard en route to capturing gold tonight.

Jacob Armon was the silver medalist in 2:01.83 and Will Ryley bagged the bronze in 2:03.49.

Cassin split 26.25/32.20 (58.45)34.13/28.42 en route to establishing his new lifetime best. Entering this competition, Cassin’s PB rested at the 2:02.68 he produced just this past February to win gold at the 2026 Luxembourg Euro Meet. As such, Cassin hacked that previous PB to bits en route to taking the title here tonight.

Cassin has had quite a successful meet, with this 200m IM gold added to his 200m fly top spot (1:57.05) and his 100m fly gold (53.06).
