ESPN’s Jeff Legwold: ASU OT Max Iheanachor among prospects climbing draft boards ...Middle East

Sport by : (Arizona sports) -

Hundreds of prospects are hoping they’ve done enough to hear their name called in just under two weeks, and Arizona State offensive tackle Max Iheanachor is among those who have boosted their stock at the NFL Draft Combine and individual pro days.

At 6-foot-6 and 321 pounds, the ASU Sun Devil made ESPN’s Jeff Legwold’s list of the top-seven biggest NFL Draft risers on Sunday, labeling the senior as a possible Day 2 selection (rounds 2 and 3).

… It’s his complete résumé of 26 college starts that shows how far he has come. Scouts took note of Iheanachor’s one-on-one work against Texas Tech’s edge players last season, and he was consistently impactful in Senior Bowl workouts.

Legwold operated under the lens of the draft being “about potential over production” in his classification of Iheanachor, saying that although he may not be a Day 1 starter in the league, he has “the qualities offensive line coaches want in a tackle.”

These qualities include his stature, 83.25-inch wingspan (6 feet, 11.25 inches) and show of quickness with a 4.91-second 40-yard dash. His 40 time was 0.01-seconds away from the best ever by an offensive lineman.

The lineman told reporters at ASU’s pro day on March 27 that he planned visits with the Arizona Cardinals (who have the No. 34 and 65 overall pick), Chicago Bears (Nos. 57 and 89), Philadelphia Eagles (Nos. 54, 68 and 98) and Baltimore Ravens (Nos. 45 and 80).

The player who first played organized football at JUCO East Los Angeles College in 2021 had the opportunity to do some hands work with second-year New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel when scouts came to Tempe.

“Started playing football five years ago and just continues to get better and better and better. As he keeps going on that track, he’s going to be a great NFL player,” fellow Sun Devil and NFL wide receiver prospect Jordyn Tyson said at the pro day.

Iheanachor has not only gained momentum in the eye of individual pundits but across multiple big boards, as he was projected to be chosen around No. 71 overall on Jan. 24 and is sitting at No. 36 (the fourth pick of round 2) as of Saturday, according to aggregate site NFL Mock Draft Database.

The Eagles drafting Iheanachor at No. 23 overall is a popular pick among pundits, including ESPN’s Field Yates, who said on March 1 the ASU product had an “impressive” upside even before his skills were tested at the combine.

The 2026 NFL Draft will go from Thursday, April 23 to Saturday, April 25 in Pittsburgh. Round 1 will get underway Thursday at 5 p.m. MST and rounds 2-3 on Friday at 4 p.m.
