The Chicago Cubs made a pair of roster moves prior to their Sunday finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, placing pitcher Hunter Harvey on the injured list.
Harvey was placed on the 15-day IL with right triceps inflammation, the team announced Sunday.
He has posted an 0-1 record and a 6.75 ERA in four appearances this season, with four strikeouts in four innings of work for the Cubs.
In a corresponding roster move, the Cubs selected the contract of pitcher Charlie Barnes from Triple-A Iowa.
Barnes spent the last four seasons pitching in Korea’s KBO, and has appeared in three games with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs this spring. He has a 2.38 ERA in 11.1 innings, giving up eight hits and issuing six walks while also racking up 14 strikeouts in those appearances.
The news is yet another blow to the Cubs’ bullpen depth after they placed reliever Phil Maton on the injured list Friday as he deals with right knee tendinitis.
Their rotation has also been hit hard, with Cade Horton done for the season and Matthew Boyd on the IL with a left biceps strain.
The Cubs and Pirates will finish a three-game series today at Wrigley Field. They’ll then hit the road for a brief road trip to take on the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game set, then they’ll come back home to face the Mets and Phillies at Wrigley beginning Friday.
