Tennessee QB George MacIntrye talks improved ‘comfort level’ after 2026 spring camp ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

The Tennessee Volunteers completed their Orange & White spring scrimmage Saturday at Neyland Stadium, giving fans the latest public glimpse of quarterback George MacIntyre as potential QB1 heir apparent in Knoxville.

MacIntyre, who saw brief mop-up duty behind Joey Aguilar in 2025, hopes to ascend to the starting spot following Aguilar’s unsuccessful bid to gain additional eligibility. The redshirt freshman appeared in two games last season, going 7-of-9 for 69 yards.

“I feel a good bit more comfortable,” MacIntyre said to reporters after the game. “I think a lot of that growth happened between practice 1 and practice 15. Not necessarily between now and last year. A lot more comfortable and a lot more clear visions, operationally, getting in the playbook and once you have 15 days stacked on top of each other everything felt really clear.”

MacIntyre is still technically in a battle for the QB1 spot with 5-star freshman Faizon Brandon, and neither signal-caller exactly shined in Saturday’s public scrimmage in front of an estimated 48,000 on hand at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said he was not inclined to name a starter during the 15-session spring session and did not do so following’s Saturday’s final workout of the spring.

It is possible MacIntyre and Brandon could be locked into a position battle heading into Tennessee’s 2026 season opener against Furman at home on Sept. 5 and even beyond, as the Vols don’t begin SEC play until Sept. 26 at home against Texas.
