BATAVIA, N.Y. — Members of the community came together to help rescue a stray cat stuck in a tree for five days in Batavia.
Shawn McMahon, who runs the Erie County Blotter Facebook page, had seen a post about the cat on Facebook. McMahon then made a trip out to Batavia, and asked for help from anyone in Western New York who could.
On Friday, Len’s Stump and Tree Service out of Cheektowaga showed up to rescue the cat, and the Batavia Police Department provided a net.
Kelly Vanoseh, who owns the tree service, went up in a bucket to try and trap the cat. He said the cat either had the choice to jump or go by him, so the cat went near him.
He then grabbed the cat and put it in a crate. The cat then started flailing around, and jumped out, according to Kelly. McMahon and his wife were at the bottom of the tree and caught the cat.
