A Big Night for Frondell, a Bad Night for Everyone Else, Hall of Fame, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

This evening there will be a private ceremony to officially induct the inaugural members into the Blackhawks Hall of Fame. In addition to the individuals whose numbers have already been retired by the Blackhawks, Duncan Keith, Steve Larmer (whose number should be retired) and the late Troy Murray will be inducted. There will be a special celebration of the Hall of Famers before tomorrow afternoon’s game at the United Center, which should be special.

Anton Frondell has scored in every game he’s ever played in at the United Center. And, last night, Frondell became just the fifth Blackhawks skater in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) to score in each of their first two career home games with the Blackhawks. The others: Jean Savard (4 GP in 1977-78), Cole Guttman (3 GP in 2022-23), Artemi Panarin (2 GP in 2015-16) and Eddie Olczyk (2 GP in 1984-85).

— Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) April 10, 2026 In the first period of last night’s game, we saw the entire range of potential from Nick Lardis. He led the Blackhawks with three shot attempts, three individual scoring chances and two high danger chances. He had this nice, clean breakaway late in the first period. But… he also cheated for offense right out of the gate (when Carolina scored 19 seconds into the game) and got caught again when the Canes scored their second goal.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) April 10, 2026 Lardis was far from being the only guy to have a bad night last night. It might feel like it suits these young Blackhawks to get into a track meet against a team like Carolina — even when the Canes were sitting seven regular skaters — but the veteran team is going to stay more structured in that track meet. And that cost the Hawks a couple goals in the first last night. I think my biggest takeaway from last night was that Carolina is what the Blackhawks hope to look like in 3-5 years. Their systems are so well established from top to bottom in the organization that they can plug in a half dozen guys from the AHL and nothing changes. They were relentless with the attack and fast up and down the ice. They came in waves all night. The Blackhawks are still trying to get an entire NHL roster of guys who know what it takes to play an 82-game NHL season with intensity. Congrats to Landon Slaggert, who appeared in his 100th NHL game last night. The Blackhawks’ power play didn’t get on the board last night, but they’ve been scary since the coaches went to five forwards on the top unit. Good read from Ben Pope here on how that unit has certainly given the organization something to think about this summer and into training camp.

The Blackhawks' five-forward power play has been superb, producing about 1.85 scoring chances/minute — up from 0.87 previously this season. They've earned the opportunity to start next season together.New story: t.co/4HQXOpkALQ

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) April 8, 2026 With the Blackhawks out of the playoff picture already, it would make sense that there might be invitations from USA Hockey for the World Championship coming for Spencer Knight, Frank Nazar and Alex Vlasic (maybe others?) as soon as Thursday of next week. Don Granato, who will be the head coach for the USA at that tournament, has been at the last two Blackhawks home games. In the Frozen Four last night, Wisconsin got goals from Simon Tassy and Ryan Botterill 27 seconds apart in the first period and that was enough. They held on to win the first game of the night 2-1. The late game went laaate last night. Kent Anderson scored at 12:35 into the fifth period to give Denver a 4-3 win over Michigan. Yes, fifth period — they were in the second overtime. Michigan out-shot Denver 52-26 in the game, but the one goal both sides needed came off the stick of Anderson. The Badgers will face the Pios on Saturday afternoon in Vegas. The championship games begins at 4:30 pm CT. Speaking of the Wisconsin Badgers, Cole Caufield scored his 50th goal of the season last night. He’s the first Montreal Canadien to score 50 goals in a single season since Stephane Richer in 1989-90.

— TSN (@TSN_Sports) April 10, 2026 File this away for the summer: the Philadelphia Flyers had an assistant general manager at the Blackhawks game last night. For the “that’s just an Eastern Conference team watching Carolina” crowd, the Flyers had the same AGM at the Blackhawks’ last home game against Winnipeg. And no, it isn’t Patrick Sharp who’s on the guest list… The New York Islanders also had senior front office representatives at the last two Blackhawks home games. The Blackhawks (and fans) have likely been planning on getting Florida’s 2027 first-round pick from the trade because of how bad things have gone for the defending champs this season. You can add another injury to the list: Seth Jones suffered a broken foot in the second period against Montreal. Everything that could have gone wrong for the Panthers did this year. Seattle Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke spoke to the media on Thursday to address the changes in their front office. It certainly sounds like they’re ready to shake up more than the front office and might take a swing this summer. They were reportedly willing to make a significant offer to Artemi Panarin before the trade deadline; he opted to go to LA. This is something to watch.

CEO Tod Leiweke promised changes after the Kraken shook up their front office: "We're committed to improving every single aspect of the organization.” Here's what else he said. t.co/gk7tVl0TuK

— The Seattle Times (@seattletimes) April 9, 2026 Finally, as we continue looking ahead to May 5 and the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery deciding where the Blackhawks will pick in the first round, a fun read here from the folks at NHL Central Scouting with comps for some of the top prospects. The next Patrick Kane? Charlie McAvoy? Jake Sanderson? Hmm….

2026 Draft: It's that fun time of the year when we guess player comps for the top prospects eligible in the draft. Always good to have Central Scouting share their opinions on this subject … t.co/SF8livdwb0
