But on June 6, with soccer’s World Cup fast approaching this summer, the iconic stadium in College Station will provide a different kind of backdrop for a slightly different kind of football. Instead of American football, it’ll be soccer, “the beautiful game,” that takes center stage at Texas A&M, and it’ll be international powerhouse and defending World Cup champion Argentina coming to College Station.
Argentina will be going through its final rehearsal steps in defending its World Cup crown when it faces Honduras on June 6 at Kyle Field in an international friendly. It’ll be the second-ever international soccer match held at Kyle Field, so it’ll be quite the change from the action that usually goes down at the home of the football Aggies.
The friendly will be part of the “Road to 26” and will kick off at 8 p.m. ET.
“We look forward to seeing international soccer return to Kyle Field, especially ahead of the World Cup this summer,” Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts said in a statement. “This is a very exciting time for soccer across the world as well as in the state of Texas. It will be a great opportunity to welcome fans from all over to our campus and one of the most elite venues in college sports.”
Argentina has won 3 World Cup titles, including the last one in 2022 led by soccer icon Lionel Messi, while Honduras is always a strong contender in the sport and had a solid showing at last summer’s Gold Cup, when it advanced to the semifinals.
Mexico faced Brazil in the only other international soccer match held at Kyle Field, back in June of 2024, when an astounding 85,249 fans showed up to the College Station venue.
