VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – An injured 72-year-old hiker was located using a drone that could detect heat signatures Sunday evening.
On April 5, the Thousand Oaks Station was contacted by the family of a Simi Valley man who had gone missing stated a press release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
The family shared that the 72-year-old was last seen around 9 a.m. and often hiked in the hills between Moorpark and Simi Valley noted the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
Around 8:30 p.m., the missing man's vehicle was spotted near the intersection of Los Alamos Canyon Road and Quimisa Drive and responders initiated a search of the surrounding areas detailed the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
As part of the search, a K-9 Officer deployed a drone which detected a heat signature about two miles north of the parked vehicle in a rugged hillside area north of State Route 118 shared the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
First responders hiked to the location and found the 72-year-old in dense brush and suffering from injuries consistent with a "serious slip-and-fall" and he was provided medical aid before being transported to Los Robles Hospital for further treatment explained the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
