Day two of the Open Water National Championships saw Northern KY Clippers’ Clare Herfel and Revolution Aquatics Club’s Joey Eaddy win the Junior National 5k races on Friday morning.

Clare Herfel, 16 (CLPR) — 1:04:15 Una Diaz, 16 (LIAC) — 1:04:25 Charlotte Kohner, 16 (LIAC) — 1:04:35 Grace Gannon, 14 (FAST) — 1:04:38 Liv Fleshman, 16 (TAC) — 1:04:39 Dru Hershberger, 16 (SYS) — 1:04:41 Lauren Canty, 16 (LIAC) — 1:04:45 Ansley Bess, 15 (SPA) — 1:04:51

Clare Herfel from the Northern KY Clippers Swim Team swam the top time in the girls’ 5k of 1:04:15, coming in 10 seconds ahead of Long Island Aquatic Club’s Una Diaz, who swam 1:04:25 to finish 2nd overall.

Herfel was 8th last year while Diaz was the overall champion. Diaz’s Long Island teammate, Charlotte Kohner finished 3rd in 1:04:35, a massive jump from her 10th place finish at last year’s meet.

Fisher’s Area’s Grace Gannon finished 4th in 1:04:38, but as the top 14-15 age swimmer, she will earn the first spot at the 2026 Junior Open Water Championships to compete in the 5k event. Gannon is just 13 right now, but she will be 14 before the end of this year. Gannon was 32nd last year.

Ansley Bess finished 8th in 1:04:51, and will be 15 on December 31 of this year, which makes her eligible for the 2nd spot in the 5k at the Junior Championships. Bess finished 14th in 2025.

The top three in the 2026 boys’ Junior National 5k race are the same as last year, only the 1st and 3rd place finishers have swapped positions.

Joey Eaddy, a 16-year-old out of Revolution Aquatics Club swam the top time of 58:32, coming in just seven seconds ahead of 15-year-old Sawyer Hansen, who touched in 58:39. Hansen was the runner-up in 2025 as well.

Hansen, the younger brother of women’s Open Water National Team member Brinkleigh Hansen, is currently 14 but will turn 15 before the end of the year which means he will earn the first of two spots in the 5k race at the 2026 Junior Open Water Championships.

Planet Swim’s Lincoln Driesse finished 3rd in 58:42 after he was the winner last year.

Bradshaw Shoemaker from Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team finished 9th after touching in 59:13, just behind Russell from the Bolles School. Shoemaker will be 14 before December 31, which makes him eligible for the 2nd spot in the boys’ 5k in the Junior Open Water Championships in September.
