A police investigation is underway after officials at a suburban school reported AI-generated “pornographic” images of students were being distributed.
School officials said the incident began on Feb. 26, when Lake Zurich High School administrators “received a report regarding the possible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate pornographic images (which reportedly included likenesses of other LZHS students).”
In a message to families Thursday, District 95 said the report was quickly handed over to police as families of the students thought to be involved – including those of students whose likenesses were used, as well as those allegedly involved in the generation or distribution of the images – were contacted by both the administration and a Lake Zurich Police Department detective.
The district said up until March 6, an investigation was conducted and ultimately “school-based consequences” were issued, but an active criminal investigation remains ongoing. The district warned that “additional families may receive communication from the police department regarding their student’s involvement in the incident.”
The Lake Zurich Police Department confirmed its active investigation, saying the case involved “potential transmission of lewd material, including AI-generated content depicting the likenesses of juveniles, between students.” No further information was provided, however.

Please know that we are taking this matter with the utmost seriousness, as such actions are a fundamental violation of the values we work to instill in our students every day,” District 95 Superintendent Dr. Kelley Gallt wrote in her letter to families. “We are committed to being responsive to our students through the support and care we provide internally. We want to empower our parents and guardians with the tools to navigate this difficult topic at home, while we continue to provide targeted teaching and emotional support within our schools.”
