A person was hit by a Metra train in the suburb of Geneva Thursday morning, halting all inbound and outbound trains in the area during the morning rush hour commute.

Metra issued a service alert just after 6:15 a.m. on its Union Pacific West line, saying “inbound and outbound train movement halted near Geneva due to a trespasser being struck by train 18.”

“Extensive delays are anticipated,” the alert stated.

A spokesperson confirmed a pedestrian was struck, but could not provide information on the circumstances of the incident or the pedestrian’s condition.
