A person was hit by a Metra train in the suburb of Geneva Thursday morning, halting all inbound and outbound trains in the area during the morning rush hour commute.
Metra issued a service alert just after 6:15 a.m. on its Union Pacific West line, saying “inbound and outbound train movement halted near Geneva due to a trespasser being struck by train 18.”
“Extensive delays are anticipated,” the alert stated.
Details on what happened, and any injuries involved, weren’t immediately available.
A spokesperson confirmed a pedestrian was struck, but could not provide information on the circumstances of the incident or the pedestrian’s condition.
Trains were instead departing from West Chicago, skipping stops in Geneva and Elburn through parts of the morning rush.
