Part of Genesee Riverway Trail closed due to Vacuum Oil site work ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A portion of the Genesee Riverway Trail will be closed for construction at the Vacuum Oil Brownfield Cleanup site.

The trail will be closed from Violetta Street to South Plymouth Avenue. The closure is expected to last throughout the summer.

The City of Rochester is working to implement cleanup efforts at three of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) sites located along the western bank of the Genesee River, south of Flint Street.

Site preparation activities including tree clearing, Right-of-Way protections, and site security measures began in fall 2024.  Excavation and disposal of the impacted source soils, backfilling and installation of 2 feet of clean cover soils is expected to start in late spring 2026, the city said on its website.

People on the trail are asked to follow all posted signage, flaggers, and detours in the area, or to use other routes.
