The boys’ meet opened with 200 medley relay where Santa Margarita swam the top time of 1:32.63, beating the Loyola ‘A’ team by almost two seconds. Loyola’s team consisted of Jack Walker (24.30), Jeremy Hah (25.96), Lex Ng (22.75), and Hudson Peters (21.47) swimming 1:34.48. Northwood finished 4th.

Northwood had the top swimmer in the 200 freestyle with sophomore Michael Wang swimming 1:37.17 to be the only swimmer under 1:40. This was a new personal best for Wang, who came into the meet at 1:38.74 from last year’s State Championships. Santa Margarita finished 2nd-5th in the event with Tyler Lee finishing 2nd in 1:40.05.

Wang and Lee also finished 1st and 2nd in the 100 freestyle. Wang touched in 44.40, which was a new personal best for him from the 44.57 he swam at the beginning of March. Lee touched in 45.84, half-a-second off his best 45.32 that he set a week prior.

Santa Margarita’s Taylor Thongintra swam 1:49.50 in the 200 IM to come in just one hundredth ahead of Northwood’s Andrew Maksymowski who swam 1:49.51. Thongintra is committed to Northwestern for 2027. Maksymowski is committed to USC for 2026.

Thongintra also won the 100 breaststroke in 55.16, four tenths ahead of Cooper Ren, from Harvard Westlake, who swam 55.55. Ren was Harvard Westlake’s only swimmer at the meet.

Maksymowski went on to win the 100 backstroke in 49.23, three seconds ahead of Darren Nguyen‘s 52.18 for Santa Margarita in 2nd. Nguyen is committed to Claremont Mudd-Scripps for the fall.

Bennett Korner from Santa Margarita won the 50 free in 20.70, six hundredths ahead of Northwood’s Eli Siniak, who swam 20.76. Korner, who is committed to Xavier for 2026 has been 20.20, and Siniak in only a sophomore, but has a lifetime best of 20.69.

Clovis West picked up their first win of the meet with Stanley Oka‘s 49.29 in the 100 fly being the only swimmer under 50 seconds in the event. He added about a second from his best of 48.12 that he swam at last year’s CIF Championships. Oka is committed to the Air Force Academy for the fall. Harvard Westlake’s Ren finished 2nd in the 100 fly in 50.39.

Santa Margarita’s Baron Marshall won the 500 free by more than six seconds, touching in 4:34.20, a little more than two seconds off his lifetime best 4:31.98 from February.

The meet wrapped up with the 400 freestyle relay, where Northwood swam the top time of 3:02.66 coming in two tenths ahead of the Santa Margarita ‘A’ relay. Northwood’s team of Michael Wang (45.16), Max Chen (47.10), Liam von Schonfeldt (47.03), and Andrew Maksymowski (43.37) came in ahead of the Santa Margarita team of Bennett Korner (46.14), Carson Eich (46.16), Jeffrey Chang (45.48), and Tyler Lee (45.09), who swam 3:02.87.

The teams will meet again at the end of the season at the CIF State Championships. The Northwood boys team won four events, the same number as Santa Margarita, which is a good sign for a potential repeat, and it will be easier to compete with Santa Margarita’s depth once more teams come into play at the State meet.
