Manchester City will welcome reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain to the Etihad on Wednesday in one of the most prominent matchday 2 fixtures of the Champions League this week, and both sides will look for inspiration from star midfielders Rayan Cherki and Vitinha, respectively.
Under manager Pep Guardiola, Cherki arrived at Manchester City in June 2025 and has since established himself as the team's most gifted player. He is technically sound and is the team's most creative player, with his trickery, ball movement, and knack for goals contributing to his tally of 10 goals and 16 assists last season in all competitions, helping City win the FA Cup and League Cup.
For this campaign, the Frenchman has become a key piece of Enzo Maresca’s midfield setup, with his goals and chance creation a focal point in the team’s ongoing eight-match winning run.
Vitinha, meanwhile, switched from FC Porto to PSG in June 2022 and has been pivotal to the team's dominance not only in French football but also in the Champions League. Revered for his match tempo control, ball retention, and high-volume passing, the deep-lying midfielder covers a massive distance across the pitch, smoothly linking the defence to the attack.
While Cherki primarily excels in the central attacking midfield department, Vitinha is versatile enough to operate effortlessly for Luis Enrique’s team in both the central and the defensive midfield ranks.
Here, FootballWhispers will statistically compare Man City midfielder Cherki and PSG midfield maestro Vitinha, using Premier League and Ligue 1 data from the ongoing 2026/27 season.
