Most cruisers know that each cruise line offers a different experience, and there are definitely pros and cons to each one. Within a single cruise line, there is also a huge variety from ship to ship. I’ve been on a countless number of Norwegian Cruise Line ships–all the way from one of its oldest vessels like the Sun, one of its first mega-ships like the Epic, and now, its most recent ship, the Norwegian Luna. After everything that I’ve experienced with NCL, the Luna is hands down my favorite ship. Here are 5 things that stood out to me on my most recent sailing.

1. Endless Spaces To Sit And Relax

With a ship as large as the Norwegian Luna, which holds over 3,500 guests, you would hope that there would be ample amount of places to sit and enjoy the surroundings of the ship. I’ve found, with some cruise ships (both in the Norwegian line as well as other lines) that this isn’t always the case. Overall, there is an overall feeling of expansiveness in the spaces onboard. Take the atrium, for example. Here, there are three levels with tons of different seating areas to enjoy. Some have desks with electrical outlets, making it easy to work or recharge your devices. Some are cozy chairs that are perfect for curling up with a book, and others are chic chairs to enjoy a cocktail in.

The reason the staterooms feel this way is because they are thoughtfully designed. There are smart storage solutions hidden throughout every cabin, with large closets that have multiple shelves and drawers, side tables with tons of places to put extra supplies, and bathrooms that can hold all of your toiletries. Even the smallest stateroom onboard, the Studio cabin meant for solo travelers, is spacious enough for a single person. There’s room under the bed for a suitcase, a vanity to get ready at, a large shower, and extra space to move around freely. I wouldn’t have an issue staying in any of the cabin offerings on the Luna.

Boardwalk-Feel Entertainment Areas
Arcade entrance on the Norwegian LunaThere is a two-level mini-golf course with adorable themes–a perfect activity to play with your family on a sea day. Next to that, a bright purple area called The Stadium has a ton of different lawn-style games to play. A level above that, there are glow-courts, with pickle ball and basketball, plus a multi-level climbing and obstacle course called the Moon Climber. These areas feel less “classic cruise ship” and a bit more out-of-the-box, which I enjoyed. If you want to stay indoors, there is an entire arcade that has every type of game you could think of. Virtual reality games, ski-ball, racing games, and even a small bowling alley can be played in this area. I will note that these indoor games do cost extra, but like any arcade, you can also win tons of different prizes for playing.
Multiple Bars With Different Personalities
When cruise ships first gained popularity, the types of bars you’d see around ships were basically the same. A pool bar here, a champagne bar there, but overall, they just offered quick alcohol for the guests that wanted it. Over the years, cruise lines have gotten more creative with their bar offerings, and I found that the ones on the Norwegian Luna added a lot to my experience as a guest onboard.
Entertainment Options For a Variety Of Tastes
The Norwegian Luna has tons of activities, eateries and areas onboard that are created to appease people of all ages. This idea doesn’t stop at the entertainment, either. The various offerings of entertainment allow every type of cruiser to find something that they would really love.
There are also venues around the ship that have their own entertainment. At Syd Norman’s Pour House, a group of musicians have a variety of musical sets that they play. This venue has its own bar, and guests sit at tables while watching the performers on a small stage. They also move through the audience, making it very interactive. They cover things like 90s music, an Eagles tribute and a Fleetwood Mac tribute. Similar to the style of Syd Norman’s, there are musicians that get stationed throughout various parts of the ship, allowing live music to flow through the air as you move from bar to bar.
