Day 68 of the Chicago Bears offseason. Don’t be fooled by that bright sunshine; it is downright chilly in Chicago this morning.
I had a ton of fun answering questions in our mailbag podcast episode, which included a surprise guest appearance by Brett Taylor. I hope you take some time to check out the pod this weekend:BN Bears Podcast Ep. 24: Free Agents, Trade Down Talk & Odunze’s Future t.co/tU53IH2gPB

I didn’t have quarterback Caleb Williams clapping back against Skip Bayless regarding the Iceman nickname on my Bears offseason bingo card. But it happened:Idc about where your fandom stands. I was trying give you and everyone else the benefit of the doubt. About knowing business and being smart about it. But I guess not. Foolish of me! Also words matter Skip Bayless. “Steal” Enjoy that podcast. t.co/PDMbllK1lx pic.twitter.com/fouK4A4zsz
— Caleb Williams (@CALEBcsw) March 27, 2026 My weekend to-do list includes piecing together the history of Caleb Williams and the Iceman nickname. I know I told myself that I’d ease up on my weekend workload in the offseason. Still, the voice in my head says I need to have this ready to go Monday morning. I can’t shut him up, so I’ll be busy piecing together stuff all weekend. Zoltán Buday (Pro Football Focus) lists the Bears’ signing of linebacker Devin Bush as one of his favorite offseason transactions. The explanation is sound, too:The veteran linebacker played the best football of his career during his two seasons in Cleveland. His 79.2 PFF overall grade in 2024 ranked ninth among linebackers, and he was even better last season. In 2025, his 87.3 PFF run-defense grade ranked ninth at the position, while his 80.4 PFF coverage grade placed fourth, leading to an 87.6 PFF overall grade (fourth among 88 linebackers). Still, Chicago managed to secure him for only $10 million per year, which is tied for just 17th among linebackers.
Kudos to Chicago’s front office for threading the needle in signing a free agent at a position of need who is a good ballplayer while doing so at a tremendous value. That doesn’t happen often. And it certainly hasn’t happened often for the Bears over the years. New Bears LB Devin Bush. © Scott Galvin-Imagn Images The UFL returned for its 2026 campaign on Friday. Jacob Camenker (USA Today) highlights new rules that are in place beginning this season. Among them are four-point field goals for kicks beyond 60 yards, no punting inside the 50-yard line, a ban of the Tush Push, and a unique overtime format. I love it when leagues like this get creative. Firstly, it puts eyes on the product. And, secondly, it allows the NFL to check out what others are doing to see if it could work at the highest level of the game without trying to make fetch happen in meaningful games.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
I’d love to see the NFL implement the four-point 60-yard field goal and no punting after crossing the 50-yard line rules. It would bring an extra layer of team building (do you roster a long field goal specialist like college teams do?) and in-game strategy (how do you approach offense once you cross the 50-yard line?) that would add some additional spice to the NFL. Then again, the Bears already tend to stray away from punting after crossing the 50 with Ben Johnson calling the shots as the head coach. Nevertheless, I like the bold ideas! Poor Ian Cunningham is getting grilled for his picks in this draft:Probably the worst team you could’ve possibly built here pic.twitter.com/li5rpQ0tLb
— OTL (@otl_ff) March 27, 2026 For the record, I went with (in this order) the all-time Washington defense (because I knew I’d have Sean Taylor and Champ Bailey in the secondary), Greg Olsen at tight end (because I was hoping to save running back for the end), John Elway at quarterback (because I was afraid I’d get stuck with a stinker if I waited too long), DeAndre Hopkins at wide receiver (it was the first name to come to mind), Bijan Robinson (because I couldn’t think of a coach I wanted from Atlanta), and Bruce Arians (I almost went with Tony Dungy until I remembered that Arians won a Super Bowl with TB). As it turns out, team-building on the spot isn’t as easy as you’d think!MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
