Cumberland Valley Aquatic Club’s Ava Buhrman continued to shine on day 2 of the 2026 St. Mary’s City Sectionals meet, turning in a top performance in the 400 IM.

The 15-year-old threw down a lifetime best time of 4:12.47 to win the event, charging into the wall about six seconds ahead of runner-up Amelia Gipson (4:18.45). Buhrman shaved almost two full seconds off of her previous best time (4:14.31) and launched herself up the national age group rankings.

Buhrman’s winning performance bumped her up to 9th in the country so far this season in the girls’ 15-16 age group. It also landed her at #85 on the ranking of all-time top 100 times for the same age group, marking her first time breaking onto the list for this event.

Buhrman was on fire Friday evening, as she also won the 100 breast earlier in the session. She stopped the clock in 1:01.74, taking just over a second off of her lifetime best. That time marks the 17th-fastest time in the girls’ 15-16 age group this season.

Buhrman was the only one in the field to break the 1:02 barrier in the girls’ 100 breast, as fellow 15-year-old Lily Baynon of Farmingdale Aquatics took 2nd in 1:02.60.

On the boys’ side of the competition, Jaxson Daniel also turned in a noteworthy performance in the 400 IM. The 14-year-old, who swims for Nation’s Capital, placed 4th in 3:58.43, dropping over four seconds over the course of the day to break 4:00 for the first time. Daniel’s performance marked the 9th-fastest time in the country this season in the boys’ 13-14 age group.

Other Day 2 Winners and Highlights

The girls’ 200 free went to The FISH’s Lila Sherman, who charged into the wall in 1:48.09 to claim the victory. The 16-year-old was just .11 off of her lifetime best in the event. Matt Krause, who swims for Mercersburg Academy and is committed to swim for Indiana University-Bloomington next season, took home the title in the boys’ 200 free in 1:37.61. Krause posted a significant time drop in the event, knocking almost three seconds off his time from the morning to blow past the 1:40 barrier. 33-year-old Chuck Katis, who trains with Nation’s Capital, won the boys’ 100 breast in a personal best time of 52.90, shaving .14 off his previous lifetime best. He was the only competitor in the field to go sub-54 in the event. Williamsburg Aquatic Club’s Elizabeth Gregory prevailed in the girls’ 50 back with a time of 25.66. The 17-year-old, who is headed to Miami University in Ohio this fall, lowered her personal best by .35. The boys’ 50 back went to Kyle Gadsby of Dragon Swim Team, as the 16-year-old stopped the clock in 22.83 to win by a full second. 18-year-old Molly Workman claimed the title in the girls’ 100 fly with a lifetime best time of 52.96, dropping almost a full second from her previous best (53.94) to break 53 seconds for the first time and land at 37th on the ranking of top times this season in the girls’ 17-18 age group. Workman, who trains with Nittany Lion Aquatic Club and is committed to swim for UVA next season, charged into the wall over two seconds ahead of runner-up Addison Buckman (55.16). Brody Reber of Lancaster Aquatic Club won the boys’ 100 fly, throwing down a time of 47.99 to shave about half a second off his personal best. 16-year-old Henry Rossman, who trains with The FISH, prevailed in the 400 IM in 3:55.57 and dropped over three-and-a-half seconds from his personal best in the event. Rossman’s performance in the event landed him at #51 on the ranking of top times this season in the boys’ 15-16 age group. Germantown Academy Aquatic Club won the girls’ 800 free relay with a time of 7:31.97, thanks to the team of Arden Keitel, Grace Bell, Vita Capriotti and Amelia Gipson. Meanwhile, Sofie Vanyo of Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs, who finished 13th, had the fastest leadoff time of any relay team, logging a time of 1:50.41 to mark the only sub-1:51 performance on the opening 200. Rockville Montgomery Swim Club’s team of Maximus Devinney, Daniel Mulla, James Lawrence and Kevin Lee prevailed in the boys’ 800 free relay with a time of 6:48.07. As the leadoff on the runner-up squad, Lancaster Aquatic Club’s Reber posted a significant lifetime best in the 200 free, touching in 1:40.70 to knock over two seconds off his previous time (1:42.87).
