PALMYRA, N.Y. — A man and woman from the Town of Palmyra were arrested following an animal cruelty investigation.
Deputies arrested Meghan E. Vitaro, 24, and Dominic S. Vitaro, 80, of North Creek Road in Palmyra for 25 counts each of Animal Cruelty – Failure to Provide Sustenance, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Over a period of about two years, the Vitaros allegedly deprived multiple dogs of necessary sustenance by confining them in an unsanitary environment.
Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a search warrant at Marbletown Road in Arcadia, the residence where the dogs were kept. Deputies found the entire interior of the residence saturated and covered in animal feces and urine.
The Town of Arcadia code enforcement condemned the residence in March 2024 due to the amount of animal feces and urine reported at that time.
Deputies seized 25 dogs from the residence and turned them over to the Wayne County Humane Society.
The Vitaros were each issued an appearance ticket and are scheduled to appear in Town of Arcadia Court on April 23, 2026 at 3 p.m. for the charges.
The Wayne County Humane Society and personnel from Lollypop Farm assisted the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office with the search warrant.
