SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – A 25-year-old man, recently released from Sheriff's Office custody, was cited for trespassing after jumping a fence into the secure area of the Main Jail while attempting to avoid federal immigration agents Friday morning.
On March 27, around 8:34 a.m., a deputy noticed a vehicle blocking the entrance to the Sheriff's Headquarters on County Road stated a press release from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, the occupant of the vehicle stated there were a federal agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and told the deputy they had tried to detain a recently released man who fled from them on foot before jumping a fence along the eastern edge of the Main Jail's perimeter.
The deputy located a 25-year-old Carpinteria man with non-life-threatening injuries, hiding between storage containers inside of the secured exterior of the Main Jail detailed the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
First responders were called to the scene and the 25-year-old was transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment shared the county law enforcement agency.
The man was issued a citation for trespassing into the secured portions of the local detention facility added the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
Around 9:34 a.m., deputies were called to County Road as ICE had their disabled vehicle towed and it was removed without further incident explained the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
