ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 32-year-old man, who is at PhD student at the University of Rochester, is facing charges after prosecutors say he sent sexually explicit images to a minor online.
Tristan Bass-Krueger is charged by criminal complaint with production, distribution, and possession of child pornography, and enticement of a minor.
Prosecutors say on Feb. 12, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office got a report from a mother that her 14-year-old daughter sent and received sexually explicit images from an adult man, and may have been having a sexual relationship with him.
The mother turned her daughter’s phone over to investigators. Investigators say they found a Tinder account on the phone belonging to the minor, and a Tinder profile belonging to Bass-Krueger.
Investigators also say they found sexually explicit messages between the two, and that the two started messaging through WhatsApp.
On Feb. 4, prosecutors say it is believed Bass-Krueger picked up the minor at her home, and they spent about five hours together.
A few days later on Feb. 8, prosecutors say Bass-Krueger sent the minor a message, which said: “I really like you an am looking forward to hanging out tomorrow, but tbh I see this relationship ending in heartbreak for you, the age gap just too big to work out long term and I’m risking serious jail time that’ll start to weigh on me more and m.”
The next day, prosecutors say Bass-Krueger and the victim were discussing the fact someone may have found out about them. In one message, prosecutors say Bass-Krueger said: “If you suspect anything delete all our communication and vids.”
Bass-Krueger was arrested on March 25 in Atlanta, Ga., and made an initial appearance in the Northern District of Georgia. He is being detained and will be returned to the Western District of New York at a later time.
In a statement from the university, it says: “Tristan Bass-Krueger is a PhD student who does not live on campus and has been working on his graduate degree requirements independently. Effective immediately, he will be prohibited from entering campus. University officials have been cooperating with local law enforcement since learning of the pending charges.”
