Day 64 of the Chicago Bears offseason. Two fantasy baseball drafts down, one to go. And only six months until I get to cram multiple fantasy football drafts into my busy schedule.

We’re planning to drop the next episode of the BN Bears Podcast on Friday. I’ve seen some good questions come through already, so keep it up! Our friends at BN Cubs share the news of an incoming extension for All-Star center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong. Firstly, I’m happy to see ownership invest in one of the team’s best players. But also, it put me in the mindset to think about which other Chicago sports standouts deserve new deals. When it comes to Bears players, right tackle Darnell Wright immediately came to mind. Earlier in the offseason, Bears GM Ryan Poles said getting a Wright deal done is a priority in a way that reminded me of how he spoke about the importance of getting a Joe Thuney deal done. So I’ll show some patience here. After writing up the JSN extension details, there is probably a conversation to be had about what Rome Odunze’s next contract could fetch. After all, the 2024 first-round pick is extension-eligible next year. But I’m not quite ready to have that conversation right now. On the one hand, I’m picking up what Marshall Harris is putting down regarding the importance of the upcoming NFL Draft. But on the other hand, I strongly believe that we can say that every draft is the most important one because of how vital it is to team building. In any case, this is a good conversation to have this time of year:.@mharrisonair on the Bears: "This is the most important draft that Ryan Poles has had, point blank and period."The players he takes defensively in this draft will determine whether or not they can keep this going." pic.twitter.com/8AmPwJ3Abc
— 104.3 The Score (@thescorechicago) March 23, 2026 Again, I feel like every draft is important. But with that being said, this particular one could further solidify the Bears’ identity under Ben Johnson in his second season as Chicago’s head coach.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
As someone who doesn’t believe in coincidences, I cannot ignore the coordinated effort to push Alabama quarterback prospect Ty Simpson up draft boards with an old-fashioned PR hype campaign:“I think Ty Simpson is the best quarterback in this class.”—@danorlovsky7 makes a strong claim ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/Kgj0Z9Rgtc
— Get Up (@GetUpESPN) March 23, 2026 With that being said, I hope this results in Simpson being on the board when the Bears go on the clock with pick No. 25 and leads to some desperate team willing to give up a load of draft capital to move up and take him. Even if that happens, it won’t be easy because teams behind the Bears could also negotiate deals. But a thrifty GM would figure out how to make something happen. Over at Awful Announcing, a look at how NFL Network’s draft coverage will continue under the ESPN umbrella. I’m not sure how you, as a fan, go about watching the NFL Draft. I tend to flip back and forth, but I will admit that I enjoy the NFL Network’s coverage more than I do what ESPN provides. But I like to dabble, so I’ll watch both if I can. ESPN’s Ryan McFadden reports on how the Raiders-Ravens Maxx Crosby deal fell apart before the start of the new league year earlier in March. In the story, McFadden mentions two offers by the Dallas Cowboys. The first included Dallas’ second first-round pick (No. 20) and defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa. Later offers featured pick No. 12 and third-rounder before a final offer of the Cowboys’ best first-round pick and a second-rounder. Even though Bears GM Ryan Poles said he checked in on a Crosby trade, an offer from Chicago’s football team is not mentioned anywhere in this story. Does Taylor know about this!?):Travis Kelce's 3-year, $54.7M contract with the #Chiefs is a 1 year, $12M contract wrapped in 9 layers of NFL contract fluff.Signed,Mike Evans' 3-year $60M contract in San Francisco.
