Several Starved Rock trails will be closed until June for repair work ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Multiple trails at Starved Rock State Park will be closed until June for repair work, part of a rehabilitation plan from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

According to park officials, those trails closed on Monday, with the primary impacts located between the visitor center and French Canyon, one of numerous canyons located within the more than 2,600-acre park.

Officials say access to French Canyon from the visitor center will be closed until June, as will access to a trail head within the parking lot of the Starved Rock Lodge.

In addition, Campanula Trail between French and Wildcat canyons will be closed, as will the Brown Bluff Trail directly above the canyon, officials said.

The closures are part of an $18 million project being undertaken by IDNR to improve trails, bridges and stairways within the park.

Trails located near Tonty Canyon, as well as a trail between Tonty Canyon and LaSalle Canyon, are also closed, as is a staircase from the west entrance to the park to a boat ramp located on the Illinois River.

More information on the closures, and updates on their progress, can be found here.
