Multiple “persons of interest” were in custody after two seperate home invasions in broad daylight the north suburbs, with police increasing patrols in residential neighborhoods and investigations ongoing.
The latest home invasion, police said, took place Friday in Northbrook, in the 1900 block of Butternut Lane, with officers responding to a 911 call at 2 p.m. The suspects fled the area before officers arrived, police said.
Troopers located the suspects’ vehicle along Interstate 94 southbound near 75th Street in Chicago Friday afternoon, the Illinois State Police, said, with the driver refusing to pull over. A police pursuit ensued.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop on the 12000 Block of South Wallace Avenue in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood, where the occupants fled into a home, prompting a SWAT response, police said.
NBC Chicago’s Sky 5 helicopter captured aerial footage showing a large police presence at the scene.
The incident follows a March 8 home invasion in the nearby suburb of Winnetka, where a suspect first posed as a delivery driver before others with masks forcefully entered a home, holding someone inside at gunpoint.
The same statement released this weekend by both the Northbrook and Winnetka Police Departments, both agencies along with the ATF, FBI, Cook County Sheriff, and Chicago and Glencoe Police Departments were actively investigating both home invasions, and that persons of interest were in police custody.
Both the Northbrook and Winnetka Police Departments said they’ve increased patrols in residential neighborhoods out of an abundance of caution.
