ROCHESTER, N.Y. – St. Patrick’s Day this year was the coldest since 1984, at least when it comes to high temperatures. We only topped out at 25°. We’ll slowly start to lose the big chill, but not before we see a little more snow. Some lake effect snow will fall north of Rochester and especially into northern Wayne County Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. A couple inches of snow will be possible, with 3-6″ not out of the question in some of the more persistent areas in NE Wayne County. A wind shift will push this band back to the north Wednesday morning. Outside of any of that lake snow, we’ll see a partially clearing sky and chilly air with temperatures dipping into the mid teens.
Outside of a few passing flurries, Wednesday will be quiet, with less wind and less chill. Highs will rebound back into the lower half of the 30s, though still about 10 degrees colder than average. We’ll climb closer to the average high in the mid 40s by Thursday and Friday, but it’ll come with a few passing rain or wet snow showers. Overall, an unremarkable last few days of winter for us. Spring officially arrives on Friday with seasonable highs in the mid 40s and a few rain showers possible.
The first full day of spring may show some promise, with temperatures likely pushing above average, if only temporarily. We’ll climb into the 40s , possibly 50s with a mostly cloudy sky. Some rain showers return on Sunday, with a transition over to wet snow as temperatures start to drop once again.
