ROCHESTER, N.Y. — U.S. marshals say they’ve arrested the man accused of leading troopers on a chase in Rochester, which ended with a woman pinned under an RTS bus.
Parole officers and others have been searching for David Robinson ever since a warrant went out for his arrest in late February. Marshals arrested Robinson on Monday around 10 p.m. at a home on Maple Street. The task force said it found Robinson hiding in an attic closet, wearing a wig. An ambulance took him to Strong Memorial Hospital for observation, but marshals didn’t provide any more details.
Last week, a grand jury indicted Robinson on charges of unlawfully fleeing an officer, criminal possession of a weapon, and assault. State Police say Robinson refused to stop when troopers tried to pull him over, leading to the chase that ended with a crash at Clifford and Hudson avenues on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
According to State Police, Robinson’s SUV crashed into the RTS bus, which then hit a 38-year-old woman on the sidewalk. As of last week, the woman remains hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Police say they found a gun inside Robinson’s SUV, which he isn’t allowed to have due to his prior felony.
After the crash, Robinson was also taken to the hospital and was eventually released from custody on his own recognizance, according to court proceedings.
More details on why the chase started
Trooper Lynnea Crane told News10NBC that State Police tried to pull Robinson over after he failed to use his turn signal within 100 feet of a turn. She said State Police did follow the correct pursuit policy that day.
“Our policy is members should make every reasonable effort to apprehend suspects that are fleeing in a vehicle. So, that also means that we have to evaluate public safety, right? So, we have to look at traffic patterns, whether the roadways are busy, or the speed,” Crane said.
