2026 TAGS Championships

March 5-8, 2026 Mansfield, TX SCY (25 yards) Results

Records fell left and right at the 2026 Texas Age Group Swimming Championships in early March, headlined by Alex Kirsling of Nitro Swimming.

The 12-year-old won all seven of his individual races and broke three South Texas Swimming records and five TAGS championship records in the process.

Kirsling shattered his own South Texas 11-12 age group record in the 200 IM, throwing down a time of 2:00.70 to knock almost two seconds off of his previous lifetime best (2:02.54) from just a few months ago in December.

He broke both the South Texas Swimming and the TAGS championship records in the 200 free thanks to his winning time of 1:45.70. Like the 200 IM, Kirsling already owned the South Texas record in the 200 free, with his performance at the meet lowering the standard by .67 and bringing the mark under the 1:46 barrier for the first time. The record previously stood at 1:46.37 from December.

Kirsling picked up a new South Texas record in the 100 back, posting a lifetime best time of 53.30 and shaving .13 off the record. The previous standard of 53.43 was set by fellow Nitro Swimming member Jeremy Kelly back in 2019. Kirsling’s performance also set a new TAGS meet record in the event.

In all three of the above races, Kirsling now holds the 2nd-fastest times in the country in the boys’ 11-12 age group so far this season.

Kirsling’s performances also launched him up the all-time national age group rankings; he now sits at 6th in the 200 free, 9th in the 100 back and 31st in the 200 IM on the list of all-time top 100 times for those events in the boys’ 11-12 age group.

Kirsling continued to turn in record-breaking swims throughout the meet. He logged three more TAGS championship records: the 100 free (49.23 – PB), 500 free (4:47.40) and 200 back (1:57.66 – PB).

His performance in the 200 back tops the season’s rankings in the boys’ 11-12 age group and landed him at #19 on the ranking of all-time top times in the event, while his performance in the 100 free marks the 2nd-fastest time in the boys’ 11-12 age group this season and ranks him 20th on the all-time top 100 list.

Kirsling also logged a new lifetime best in the 50 free as the leadoff on the 200 free relay, posting a time of 23.15. That marks the 11th-fastest time in his age group this season.

Other Notable Performers

Jordan Xanthos of Texas Ford Aquatics took down two TAGS championship records, setting new standards in the girls’ 13-14 50 breast (29.43) and the 100 breast (1:02.01) despite missing her personal best times in both events. The 13-year-old also placed 2nd in the 200 breast (2:16.09), 3rd in the 400 IM (4:27.16 – PB), 6th in the 200 IM (2:08.49 – PB), 10th in the 200 fly (2:11.93) and 11th in the 100 fly (58.73 – PB). 12-year-old Edwin Zhong, who swims for Katy Aquatics, shone in the 200 breast, throwing down a lifetime best time of 2:13.49 to shatter the Gulf Swimming record and TAGS meet record in the event. Surge Aquatics’ Liana Marek picked up two meet records over the course of the weekend. The 14-year-old prevailed in the 100 fly (54.49) and 200 fly (1:59.87), setting new lifetime bests and breaking the TAGS record in both events. Marek’s performance in the 200 fly marked the 3rd-fastest time this season in the girls’ 13-14 age group and tied her at 73rd on the ranking of all-time top 100 times for her age group in that event. In addition to her victories, Marek placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:52.12 – PB), 50 fly (25.31 – PB) and 200 IM (2:04.38 – PB), 7th in the 500 free (5:09.11) and 11th in the 400 IM (4:26.14 – PB).
