No. 4 Alabama gymnastics lost on Senior Night to the No. 6 Georgia Gymdogs 197.525-197.425 on Friday.

“This was the last home meet of the season, and that’s always a hard moment,” head coach Ashley Johnston said. “I could see our team really rally and fight for every single moment, and that was our goal for tonight.”

Rotation 1

Alabama started the meet on the vault, and Georgia was on the uneven bars. On the vault, Alabama posted a 49.075, and Georgia posted a 49.375 on the uneven bars.

Junior Jamison Sears made a 9.9 to mark Alabama’s highest vault score. However, this was not enough to land her the title. Georgia’s Avery Moll and CaMarah Williams each posted a 9.925 to take the title.

Rotation 2

For the second rotation, Alabama moved to the uneven bars and Georgia moved to the vault. On the uneven bars, Alabama posted a 49.6 to bring its total to 98.675. Georgia posted a 49.475 on the vault to bring its total to 98.85.

Alabama’s highest scorers were senior Gabby Gladieux, junior Chloe LaCoursiere, and freshman Azaraya Ra-Akbar, who each posted a 9.95. This was Gladieux’s second consecutive week obtaining a career high. This clinched Gladieux, LaCoursiere and Ra-Akbar the title.

“It just says we’re still building,” LaCoursiere said. “Every week, we get back into that gym, ready for more. We’re hungry, and that doesn’t change going into postseason.”

Rotation 3

Alabama was on the balance beam for the third rotation, and Georgia was on the floor. On the balance beam, Alabama made a 49.1 to bring its total to 147.775. Georgia posted a 49.5 on the floor to bring its total to 148.35.

On the balance beam, Alabama had two stumbles that caused significant deductions. Senior Rachel Rybicki posted a 9.625 and Gladieux posted a 9.65. LaCoursiere posted a 9.9 as Alabama’s highest balance beam scorer.

Sophomore Ryan Fuller stepped into the anchor position on the balance beam this week and posted a 9.875.

“I trust my team to set me up great wherever I need to be,” Fuller said. “I go up, I play my game the way I know how to.”

LaCoursiere tied for the event title with Georgia’s Ja’Free Scott.

Rotation 4

The Crimson Tide’s final rotation was on the floor, and the Gymdogs were on the balance beam. On the floor, Alabama posted a 49.65. Georgia posted a 49.175 on the balance beam.

Gladieux posted a 9.975 as the Crimson Tide’s highest scorer on the floor and clinched  the title.

Gladieux took the all-around title with a 39.375.

Alabama will be back in action at the SEC Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 21.

“I think that’s been one of the really special qualities about this team, is the senior class and how they’ve gone through the highs, the lows, the in-betweens, a lot of different experiences that shaped their journey,” Johnston said. “They are all legends.”
