2026 Cary, North Carolina Sectionals
March 12-15, 2026 Triangle Aquatic Center, Cary, North Carolina Short Course Yards (25 yards), Prelims/Finals Results on Meet Mobile: “2026 NC TAC Speedo Champions Series ESSZ”Reina Liu and Kayda Geyer each picked up a pair of individual wins and best times on Friday, while Mike Rice followed an electric relay split on Thursday with two individual wins of his own on Friday at the Cary Sectionals meet.
Girls Day 2 Recap
Liu, who trains with the host TAC Titans, represented Canada at the 2024 Junior Pan Pac Championships.
In her first swim of the finals session on Friday, Liu swam 1:44.49. That knocked almost a second off her previous best of 1:45.66 from November. Most of that came in the front half of the race where she split 50.28 – a full second ahead of the pace from her previous best time.
That swim is a new LSC Record for the 15-16 age group, even though Liu is only 15. The old mark of 1:45.13 belonged to Jillian Crooks, who also swam with the Titans at the time but is now a sophomore at Tennessee.
Her teammate Sloane Whelehan finished 2nd in 1:45.74. That’s about a four-tenths improvement for the Tennessee commit.
Liu won again in the 100 fly in 52.00, another best time. The improvement here was a little more balanced, making up about three-tenths ahead of her previous best time on each half of the race.
Once again it was a TAC teammate who pushed Liu in this race. Nikki Nixon had a 27.49 split on the second 50 to finish 2nd in 51.15 – a hard charge late that left her just shy of a big comeback.
Taylor Klein from MSA finished 3rd in 52.63.
Liu was one of two swimmers who had double wins on Friday on the women’s side.
Colorado State commit Kayda Geyer grabbed wins and best times in both the 100 breaststroke (59.61) and 400 IM (4:12.39).
Both races were nailbiters for her. In the 100 breast, she and her teammate Eliza Wallace were neck-and-neck throughout the race, with Geyer ultimately winning by .19 seconds.
That was the first sub minute for Geyer, whose previous best was 1:00.66.
In the 400 IM, Geyer overtook Annie Shall from SwimMAC in the closing yards of the race to win by .12 seconds (4:12.51). That was another best time for Geyer – this time by more than four seconds. Shall swam a best time for 2nd place too.
Geyer, the daughter of former LSU head coach Dave Geyer, is headed to Colorado State in the fall. She’s already well under the school record in the 100 breaststroke, and under the NCAA Automatic Qualifying Time in both races. The Mountain West is loaded with breaststrokers – the conference had five women go under a minute in the conference final this year.
Other Day 2 Winners and Notables – Girls
Liu and the Titans broke the tie on daily wins by taking the girls’ 400 medley relay title. She split 51.58 on the backstroke leg and combined with Carolin He (1:00.94), Nixon (52.90), and Caden Martin (49.39) for the win in 3:34.81. MSA, which used Wallace on the breaststroke leg of the ‘A’ relay, was 2nd in 3:37.64. MSA’s ‘B’ relay, which included Geyer, was 3rd – and Wallace outsplit Geyer 1:00.19 to 1:00.60.Girls’ Team Scores After Day 2

Mike Rice had a 1:34.0 split on to anchor MSA’s winning 800 free relay on Thursday, and she picked right back up on Friday with a 1:35.03 to win the 200 free.
A senior Auburn commit, that time missed his personal best by just .07 seconds, but was two-and-a-half clear of the field.
He came back in the 100 fly and won a much tighter race against TAC’s Maxim Skazobtsov by a margin of 45.91-46.31. That once again was just shy of a personal best for Rice, who swam 45.89 to win at Winter Juniors East in December.
The boys’ 400 IM was won by a dominant performance from TAC 17-year-old Davis Jackson in 3:44.36. His teammate Colt Chaires, who won the 1000 free on Thursday, finished 2nd in 3:53.10.
That time for Jackson knocked more than four seconds off his best time done in January.
Jackson has had a blistering calendar year already – he has been best times in eight events in 2026, including North Carolina High School State titles in the 100 back (46.69) and 200 IM (1:44.70) a month ago.
Other Day 2 Winners and Notables – Boys
The 100 breaststroke was dominated by senior swimmers, with 21-year-old Henry Lee winning in 52.24. That’s a huge time drop of 1.7 seconds for the former NC State swimmer who did not race for the Wolfpack this season. Jorge Murillo was 2nd in 52.56, and Kentucky’s Alex Ochsenbein was 3rd in 53.00. Jackson (46.30 back) and Lee (52.56 breast) combined with Maxim Skazobtsov (46.22 fly) and Jashua Thomas Durai (44.66 free) to win the 400 medley relay in 3:09.74. The Titans finished first and second in the relay.Boys’ Team Scores After Day 2
