ANDOVER, N.Y. — State police have identified the remains of a murder victim found 56 years ago in Allegany County. The body of Clyde Coppage was discovered on March 20, 1970, on Davis Hill Road in Andover, about 20 miles south of Hornell. His head and hands were missing.
New York State PoliceCoppage, who lived in Genesee, Pennsylvania, just across the New York state line, was 35 years old at the time of his death. He was never reported missing.
His remains were exhumed in 2022, and DNA analysis led to his identification, officials said.
This case remains an open and active investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact state police.
