The restaurant has routinely been discussed on message boards and social media and was even the subject of the 2008 documentary film Noma at the Boiling Point, which offered somewhat of a glimpse into what it takes for a concept like Noma to even exist. Redzepi himself has also acknowledged his behavior in the past, notably recalling in an essay for Lucky Peach an incident where he "went completely crazy" on an employee for not doing what he had asked of her.
Although the timeline of the alleged abuse is unclear, some of the testimonies claim that it goes back several years. One allegation states that a cook was punched in the stomach by Redzepi for not picking herbs correctly as far back as 2012. Unfortunately, the story is far from over. The news comes as Noma is set to embark on a 16-week pop-up in Los Angeles from March 11 through June 26. In lieu of the allegations, American Express and Blackbird have both backed out as sponsors.
