Two men have been arrested two months after authorities said a young mother was found shot to death inside of a car in Northern California.
The woman, Kembery Chirinos-Flores, of Mountain View, who was a mother to a 5-year-old son, was killed in Sunnyvale on January 7, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
One of the men arrested in her death, Gerzon Chirinos, had previously dated Chirinos-Flores, 24, Sunnyvale Chief of Public Safety Dan Pistor said at a news conference on Monday, March 9.
Chirinos, of Sunnyvale, is the father of the victim’s child, according to Pistor.
Chirinos and another man, Alfonso Inestroza, are accused of fatally shooting Chirinos-Flores in Sunnyvale and fleeing the scene the evening of January 7, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said in a March 9 news release.
Sunnyvale detectives arrested Chirinos and Inestroza, of Hollister, on Thursday, March 5, as the result of an operation across two counties that involved several law enforcement jurisdictions, according to the department of public safety.

“I can only imagine the profound pain and grief Kembery’s family is experiencing during this difficult time,” Pistor said at the news conference. “Kembery was in the prime of her life. She was working two jobs to make ends meet and she was a loving mother of a 5-year-old son.”
“This was a tragic, senseless act of violence that is fortunately extremely rare in our city,” Pistor added.
Inestroza, who also goes by Franquin Inestroza-Martinez, and Chirinos, who also goes by Gerzon Chirinos-Munguia, are now facing murder charges, authorities said.
It was not currently clear whether the men had retained defense attorneys or entered pleas as of Tuesday, March 10.
During the investigation, authorities recovered a shotgun, which they believe was used to kill Chirinos-Flores, according to officials.
The violence unfolded at a mobile home park in Sunnyvale, which is located in Silicon Valley, according to police, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Authorities did not specify whether the weapon was fired by Chirinos or Inestroza.
A potential motive for the killing is unclear.
“This investigation is still active and ongoing,” Pistor said at the news conference.

In a statement, Pistor said that “These arrests represent an important step toward justice for Kembery and her family.”
“I want to commend our detectives for their relentless work and dedication in this investigation,” Pistor added.
