Mendoza is a Clear No. 1

It is looking more and more like Fernando Mendoza is a lock for the top pick in the draft. The Raiders released quarterback Geno Smith in a move that all but points to them taking the Indiana quarterback at No. 1. It has been something out of a fairy tale for Mendoza. The dude won the Heisman Trophy and led Indiana to a 16-0 record along with a National Championship in the College Football Playoff.

Mendoza has tremendous accuracy and a high football IQ. His decision-making was excellent this season, and he would have some talent to work with in Las Vegas with tight end Brock Bowers and running back Ashton Jeanty.

Reese Leads the Odds to Go No. 2

The Jets have the No. 2 overall pick and will be considering both sides of the football after a miserable 3-14 season. They were 31st in points against on defense and 29th in scoring on offense. Linebacker Arvell Reese would be an immediate impact player for the Jets. Reese is a linebacker who is versatile enough to line up off the edge, too. He had 6.5 sacks for the Buckeyes last season, and many consider him to be the second-best player in the class.

David Bailey, Ruben Bain Jr. in the Mix

Edge rushers David Bailey from Texas Tech and Rueben Bain Jr. from Miami have been getting plenty of buzz for No. 2 as well. Bailey racked up 14.5 sacks last season, which was tied for the FBS lead. He had an impressive 19.5 tackles for loss and would give the Jets an immediate boost when it comes to getting after the quarterback.

Bain Jr. had 9.5 sacks for a Miami defense that helped the program make a run to the College Football National Championship Game. If these guys don’t go No. 2, it’s easy to see teams like the Cardinals at No. 3 and Titans at No. 4, glad to pick them. Both teams are looking to get more pressure on the quarterback.
