A portion of the Eisenhower Expressway was shut down on Monday afternoon in suburban Oak Park as Illinois state troopers investigated a report of shots fired, authorities said.
At around 1:48 p.m., troopers with the Illinois State Police responded to the inbound lanes of the expressway at Austin Avenue after gunshots were fired, according to ISP. Footage captured by NBC Chicago’s Sky 5 helicopter showed the expressway blocked by several ISP squad vehicles and Illinois Department of Transportation trucks.
No injuries have been reported.
As troopers canvassed the area, the inbound lanes were shut down between Austin Avenue in Oak Park and Circle Avenue in Forest Park, Google Maps showed. Traffic backups were reported for roughly five miles, to North Mannheim Road in Hillside.
