Luke Barr, who made his name in his college career at Indiana as a versatile swimmer across back, breast, and fly, shaved 0.06 seconds off his three-year-old 200 IM best as he placed 3rd in 2:00.31. He was out more than a second faster in tonight’s swim, hitting halfway in 56.15 as opposed to 57.26, and with some more back end speed could be a finals contender at U.S. nationals this summer.
Breeja Larson, who won gold on the women’s 4×100 medley relay at the 2012 Olympics, swam her first long course meet for nearly two years in Westmont, and swam the 5th fastest time of the day in the 50 breast with a prelims time of 31.53. She scratched the final, but the 33-year-old could be one to watch for a comeback.
Uros Zivanovic has been having a great season for Auburn after transferring from Georgia Tech, and hacked three-tenths of a second off his 50 breast PB, placing 5th in 27.33. His former best of 27.64 was set at the 2022 European Junior swimming championships, where he placed 3rd. He would go on to win gold at world juniors later that summer.
Anna Peplowski dipped under the 1:00 barrier in the 100 back for the first time last night, clocking 59.94 for 4th. That shaves 0.24 seconds off the best time she set just six weeks ago at the Austin PSS, and she has now dropped 0.63 seconds in the event already this season.
