It seemed to catch up to Diop, who was called for a technical foul for exchanging words after he was fouled on a 3 with 5:54 left in a 19-point game. He finished with a career-high seven turnovers; his previous high was four.

ASU finished with more turnovers (23) than made shots (20).

Tamin Lipsey led the way for the Cyclones on his senior day with 16 points, six assists and six steals, all team highs.

It was a nine-point deficit with 3:46 remaining in the first half after the free throws from Hurley’s technical, and ASU made its final six shots of the half from that point on to lead at the half.

Odum hit back-to-back buckets to start the run, and Noah Meeusen capped it off with a fast-break finish before finding Andrija Grbovic for a 3 on a nice feed from a dribble-drive. Iowa State went 0 for 3 from the field to end the half after Hurley’s technical.

It had been a dogfight for most of the first half, Iowa State getting its first lead of more than one possession with 5:53 remaining in the half before ASU went on its run.

Program milestones for ASU’s Moe Odum, Massamba Diop

Odum needed one assist to reach the top five in program history for assists in a single season, also passing Jahii Carson (177 in 2012-13) for the most by a Sun Devil this century.

With seven assists on Saturday, Odum needs two more to tie Mike Redhair (185 in 1989-90) with at least one game remaining.

Diop extended his lead for blocks by an ASU freshman with two on Saturday, bringing his total on the year to 67.

He entered the game with two more blocks than Jayden Quaintance had in 2024-25 (63). Quaintance needed 24 games to set the mark before a knee injury ended his season prematurely, while Diop passed the mark in his 30th contest.

Diop could feasibly catch sixth-place Tommy Smith (69 in 2002-03) and fifth-place Ike Diogu (75 in 2004-05) on the blocks list for Sun Devils regardless of year with at least one contest remaining.

ASU’s first Big 12 tournament game will be on Tuesday in Kansas City, Missouri. It will await the rest of Saturday’s conference action before knowing its opponent and time slot.
