What businesses opened, closed in February in Greeley ...Saudi Arabia

Sport by : (GreeleyTribune) -

After Greeley said goodbye to a handful of longtime businesses in January, February gave residents some new places to check out — and a place to say hello to a few other faces from the business community.

Here are four businesses either opening or starting a new chapter in February, as well as one that is saying goodbye to some loyal customers.

Opening

Fox & Hare Creations, 716 16th St.

After teaching classes and selling her hand-dyed yarn and custom knit and crocheted items at various craft fairs and events around Greeley, Bree Evanson took the next step and opened a storefront in February.

Situated upstairs in the Ambry, Fox & Hare Creations has added a pop of color and creativity to the rustic building since its soft opening Feb. 7.

“I’m trying to do what I call ‘bougie budget,’ so it’s good quality yarn, but it’s not going to break your bank,” Evanson told the Greeley Tribune last month. “Because we’re all kind of in the same boat right now.”

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, go to foxandharecreations.com or email foxandharecreations@gmail.com.

Auntie Angels Childcare, 4059 11th St.

Much like Evanson, Auntie Angels owner Rebecca Moore has run a child care operation for years out of her Greeley home. So when the space on West 11th Street opened up, she jumped at the opportunity.

“It’s a more affordable child care option offering ages six weeks to five years,” Moore said. “As well as a summer program for school-age kids.”

Though the center will likely not open its doors until mid-April, Moore put out the call for registrations late in February, since she now has an additional 80 or so spots worth of space to fill.

Cherry Picked Books, 827 10th St. (kind of)

Aiden Martinez’s love for books has grown since he officially joined the crew at The Midnight Oil in 2022. A trip last fall to Boston for an antiquarian book fair only made that passion burn brighter.

That gave Martinez — who also goes by Cherry — the spark to launch Cherry Picked Books.

“It’s specifically an antiquarian bookstore, so everything involves either vintage books or rare, harder to find books,” Martinez said. “Along with being the general manager here at Midnight Oil, I want to carve out my own presence in the rare book world.”

Martinez’s collection is in its infancy, but it is constantly expanding with new (rather, not-so-new) options.

Cherry Picked Books currently exists online at cherrypickedbooks.com, but Martinez hopes to one day expand into a physical section in The Midnight Oil.

Kokes Joyas, 1108 8th St. Unit 1

Kokes Joyas is the work of 20-year-old jeweler Jorge Lucero, who has grown his business fairly rapidly in its two years since inception. The most recent step forward was moving into the 8th Street storefront last month.

“I offer a variety of 925 silver jewelry — chains, rings, earrings, bracelets — and 10- to 14-karat gold,” Lucero said. “I also offer repairs and free cleanings.”

But one of his favorite things he does is what he calls a “stash and dash,” in which he leaves jewelry somewhere around Greeley — often in collaboration with another business — then post the location on social media for his followers to find.

“I like to give back to my clients, because I wouldn’t have anything if it wasn’t for them,” Lucero said.

Kokes Joyas is open from 12-6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and is closed Mondays. For more information, follow Lucero on Instagram.com/Kokes.Joyas or Facebook.com/jorge.lucero.522020.

Closing

Rule105 Brewing, 4731 W. 10th St.

After announcing in December that the brewery was going to close at the end of January, Rule105 remained open through February while continuing to seek a buyer for the business.

Seemingly unable to find that buyer, owners Mike and Kristie Mosher decided to officially close this chapter of their lives and retire back to their home state of Nebraska.

“We have been so blessed to meet so many wonderful people at our brewery, and we will cherish the memories,” the business wrote in a Feb. 24 Facebook post. “All the best to everyone.”

Rule105 opened in 2021 at the 10th Street location that was formerly Broken Plow Brewery. The Moshers named Rule105 for an Urban Dictionary term meaning “beer is the answer.”

The brewery announced it will hold an on-site liquidation auction at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, according to a March 4 Facebook post.
