Footage taken on Friday afternoon showed reported tornadoes rip through parts of southern Michigan, heavily damaging retail stores, homes and scattering debris across neighborhoods.
Video captured in Union City, taken from across a lake, showed a tornado shredding through a neighborhood, causing widespread destruction.

Footage showed large amounts of debris being tossed into the air in a busy retail corridor as a funnel cloud moved through.
Michigan State Police shared a message from the St. Joseph County Sheriff, where Three Rivers is located, asking residents to stay away from the nortth end of the county “until further notice.”
“Emergency personnel are currently responding to an active situation in that area, and it is critical that our firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS, and other emergency workers have clear access to do their jobs safely and effectively,” the message read, in part.
The region remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11:30 p.m., with the National Weather Service advising of winds greater than 60 miles per hour. Information on injuries wasn’t immediately reported.
