New on HBO Max in March 2026 — The Full List of Movies and TV Shows
‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ (2022)
Evelyn Quan Wang (Michelle Yeoh) can’t seem to catch a break. The laundromat she owns with her husband, Waymond (Ke Huy Quan), is being audited by the IRS, Waymond is serving her with divorce papers, she has a strained relationship with her daughter, Joy (Stephanie Hsu), and her father (James Hong) is coming down on her harder for her life choices. When everything seems to have reached a breaking point, Evelyn is whisked away on a wild adventure: her husband from a parallel universe has come to tell her that she is the key to saving the multiverse.
Despite its gonzo, surreal and frequently juvenile sensibilities, Everything Everywhere All at Once swept the Academy Awards back in 2023 with seven wins. The film is an overwhelming assault on the senses in the best way. It’s a fantastic example of what true creative expression can manifest as in filmmaking that also doubles as a universal and deeply felt story about family, empathy and generational trauma.
‘Happy Death Day’ (2017)
Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) is an average college student who enjoys a night of drunken partying, after which she wakes up in the bed of her classmate Carter Davis (Israel Broussard) the next morning. She goes about the rest of her uneventful day until she is lured into a tunnel en route to a party and is murdered by a masked killer. Instead of dying, however, Tree wakes up the next morning in Carter’s bed again, and the previous day’s events are repeating themselves. Finding herself in an endless time loop, Tree has no choice but to figure out who murdered her if she has any chance of breaking it.
Director Christopher Langdon creates a cheeky slasher riff on Groundhog Day that is fast-paced, darkly funny and doesn’t take itself too seriously. While the movie has some fun kills, it’s not very focused on gore and blood. Instead, it places a surprising amount of narrative heft on the emotional growth of Tree, who is given a great performance by Rothe. Overall, Happy Death Day is a fun and fresh take on slasher movies.
‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’ (2005)
When awkward, 40-year-old introvert Andy (Steve Carell) is discovered to be a virgin by his co-workers, he is immediately mortified. But instead of tormenting him about it forever, David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco) and Cal (Seth Rogen) make it their personal mission to help Andy finally have sex, each of them giving him different (and occasionally confusing) advice for how to attract women. Andy initially seems like a hopeless case until he meets a woman named Trish (Catherine Keener). Can Andy use his newfound knowledge to not just have sex, but find love?
4 Movies Leaving HBO Max in March You Have to Watch Right Now
The 40-Year-Old Virgin might seem like a lowbrow humor sex comedy, and while there are certainly a lot of goofy, juvenile gags, the movie was actually a turning point in the cultural zeitgeist when it came to comedies that had a certain masculine vulnerability to them. It’s ultimately far more intelligent than many people might give it credit for in its depictions of sexuality, maturity, adulthood and relationships. Aside from that, it’s also still a hilarious movie and a role that establishes Carell as one of the best comic actors of our time.
