The forces behind Bay Area pizza maven Tony Gemignani are strong this year. A new Slice House by Tony Gemignani has just opened in Livermore, and it will soon be followed by at least two others in Menlo Park and San Jose.

The Livermore pizzeria opened in late February at 1948 First St. in downtown Livermore. The city celebrated its arrival on Facebook, writing: “As an East Bay native, Tony is especially proud to bring the newest Bay Area location to the Tri-Valley. … Slice House Livermore features an extensive menu of Tony’s famous New York, Sicilian, Grandma and Detroit-style pizzas, available by the slice or whole pie, with gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options.”

Tony Gemignani is as close to a pizza celebrity as they come in the region, having won the World Pizza Cup 13 times and appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records for many pizza-related feats (among them, making the longest pizza in the world).

Gemignani began a franchise system in 2022 after successfully launching the Slice House model in San Francisco, then testing it in other markets around the Bay Area. More Slice Houses are expected to open in San Jose this summer and in Menlo Park toward the end of the year.

The Livermore restaurant has something the others don’t right now. It’s an exclusive pizza called “The True Italian,” inspired by a popular offering at his brother’s old Castro Valley pizzeria Pyzano’s, which closed years ago. That pie is sold only by the slice and features a New York-style thin crust with pesto, mozzarella, garlic, tomato, Romano cheese and garlic oil, with the option to top it with goat cheese or ricotta and hot honey.

Aside from pizza, Livermore’s Slice House also serves pasta, wings and salads, as well as wine and craft beer.

Details: Open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays at 1948 First St., Livermore; slicehouse.com
