Nuggets sign former Colorado State wing David Roddy to 2-way, waive Tamar Bates ...Middle East

News by : (The Denver Post) -

The Nuggets snuck in one last change to their cast of two-way players Wednesday, signing Colorado State alum David Roddy to stock up on wing depth for the rest of the regular season, a league source told The Denver Post.

The team waived rookie guard Tamar Bates to create a two-way spot for Roddy, a source said. Bates was Denver’s first two-way signing of last offseason on draft night, but he’s been out since December with a fractured foot.

The Nuggets plucked Roddy from the Raptors 905, Toronto’s G League affiliate, where he was averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds in 20 games this season. He signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Raptors last summer and joined the G League roster after being waived during October roster cuts.

The Nuggets wanted to use a two-way spot to add more size on the wing after they ended up signing point guard Tyus Jones off the buyout market Monday instead of a forward. Between Bates, Curtis Jones and newcomer KJ Simpson, all three of their two-way players were guards in addition to Tyus Jones, who filled the last 15-man roster spot.

Roddy, 24, played three seasons at Colorado State and was drafted 23rd overall in 2022, starting his pro career in Memphis after a draft-night trade with Philadelphia. He helped lead the Rams to a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament his junior season, earning Player of the Year honors in the Mountain West.

The 6-foot-5 forward has played in 168 NBA games for the Grizzlies, Suns, Hawks, 76ers and Rockets in four seasons as a journeyman.
