Sam (Idris Elba) was in the thick of it even more so in Hijack season 2, with our season 1 hero supposedly orchestrating the dangerous situation we were thrown into in the first episode. Of course, nothing was quite as it seemed and it turned out that Sam was merely a pawn in Stuart's (Neil Maskell) convoluted game of revenge.
Speaking about where we leave Sam at the end of season 2, series co-creator Jim Field Smith told TV Insider: "So what I like about that is it makes Sam more morally questionable. He’s not just a perfect guy who only does things because he has no other choice. Sam is an active participant in what’s going on. He’s choosing to get involved."

Will there be a Hijack season 3?
When chatting to Radio Times ahead of the season 2 finale, Elba did admit that he wasn't "sure how you could", saying: "People ask me about ‘would you do another season?’ and I say I’m not sure how you could. But actually, I do think that there is another layer of storytelling that it wouldn’t necessarily involve hijacking. At this junction, if you like this series and this story, the hijacks, the hijacking is part of something else, isn’t it?"
So, that's a pretty definitive answer if ever there was one! Elba saying that he doesn't think they'll ever come back for more pretty much puts water on that growing fire of a season 3 possibility. But as is often the case in TV, if there's a greater force at play (fan reaction or an Apple TV renewal deal), then that may all change. Seeing as season 2 garnered very mixed reviews, it may be a case of a two-season arc for Hijack after all.
What could a potential Hijack season 3 be about?
Stuart thought that the explosion had killed both Sam and John Bailey-Brown (Ian Burfield), with viewers assuming that John had been killed in the explosion after being handcuffed to a pole on the train. However, we don't know for certain so it could be plausible that managed to escape. In that case, with both of his targets potentially still living, we're sure Stuart will be far from pleased and will continue to pursue them. Without his MI5 informant though, how will he go about killing them?
"I think Sam obviously was pushed into doing a lot of bad things and having to make a lot of tough choices, some of which was inevitable because he wants to save Marsha and he wants to get answers, but he could have said no when he was recruited by Lang the night before."
Field Smith continued: "Of course, everything isn’t fine. His son is still dead. He has still got very severe PTSD from what he has been through. Marsha will have very severe PTSD from what she’s been through. He will have to deal with the consequences of his actions. He will probably face prosecution. There’s all these things that are unanswered questions that are sort of left dangling in the ether at the end of the season, and that’s more interesting to me than just wrapping it up."
Archie Panjabi's DCI Zahra Gahfoor has also starred in both seasons but seeing as she played a bit more of a reduced role with Beesley in season 2, their fate may be less certain.
