Coast Guard watchstanders at the Arctic District command center in Juneau, Alaska, were notified about the incident, which took place “approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor” at 5:05 p.m. local time on February 25, a Coast Guard rep told TMZ on Tuesday, March 3.

The captain and crew quickly mobilized, battling the elements as they worked urgently to bring him back aboard.

A statement was shared on the Deadliest Catch Facebook page in the wake of Meadows’ sudden death. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Todd Meadows,” it read. “This is a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his loved ones, his crewmates, and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time.”
