2026 Speedo Sectionals – Oceanside CA
February 26-March 1, 2026 Oceanside, California Short Course Yards (25 yards) Psych Sheets Meet Central Results: Thursday Timed Finals | Friday FinalsJunior National Team member Gabi Brito posted two new personal bests in two individual swims on Friday at the Speedo Sectionals meet in Southern California.
Brito, 15, won the 100 fly in 51.20. Not only does that knock .35 seconds off her own personal best from Winter Juniors West in December, but it makes her the 9th-fastest 15-16 100 yard butterflier in history.
In spite of being in the younger half of that age group, she is sandwiched between a pair of Olympic gold medalists: Summer McIntosh, a Canadian who spent much of her teen years training in the U.S., and Torri Huske.
Fastest 15-16 Girls All-Time, 100 Yard Fly
Claire Curzan, TAC Titans – 49.51 (2021) Charlotte Crush, Lakeside Swim Team – 50.00 (2025) Alex Shackell, Carmel Swim Club – 50.47 (2023) Mena Boardman, Unattached – 50.93 (2025) Leah Shackley, Blair Regional YMCA – 50.96 (2023) Beata Nelson, Southwest Aquatic Team – 51.08 (2014) Annie Jia, Upper Dublin Aquatic Club – 51.09 (2023) Summer McIntosh, Sarasota Sharks – 51.10 (2022) Gabi Brito, Beach Cities Alpha Swimming – 51.20 (2026) Torri Huske, Unattached – 51.29 (2019)She was already the 5th-best 15-year-old in USA Swimming history, but has now jumped Olivia Bray (51.48) and Alex Shackell (51.21) to become #3 on that list behind Claire Curzan (50.35) and Charlotte Crush (50.19).
Brito split 23.81/27.39, improving both halves of the race over her previous personal best.
Brito also finished 2nd in the 100 breaststroke in a new best time of 1:01.60. That took about three tenths off her previous personal best in an event that she doesn’t swim at national meets, but often races at Sectionals.
16-year-old Bianca Nwaizu from Irvine Novaquatics won the 100 breast in 59.61. She’s a Texas commit, and that time, not a personal best, would rank her 2nd on the Longhorn roster this season.
Another US Junior National Teamer, Alyssa Ton from Irvine Novaquatics, won the 200 free in 1:45.34. She beat out former Cal Bear Rachel Klinker, now 25, for the win, with Klinker posting a 1:46.08.
Ton’s best time is a 1:44.12 from last year’s California State Championship meet. California is easing into its 2026 championship season.
Other Day 2 Winners and Highlights:
Canyons swimmer Emma Hussein won the 400 IM in 4:13.86 beating out a pair of 14-year-olds for the win. Adalyn Lee from Brea Aquatics finished 2nd in 4:15.52 and Haylee Pramono from Aquazot finished 3rd in 4:15.74. While Lee has been faster, that knocks more than half-a-second off Pramono’s personal best and climbs her into the top 50 all-time in 13-14 history: two spots ahead of Olympic medalist Regan Smith. Nolan Eijland from Beach Cities Alpha won the boys’ 400 IM in 3:52.41. That was a two-and-a-half second improvement from his previous personal best. He split 52.94 on the freestyle leg of that swim to run down Novaquatics’ Lucas Jue, who finished 2nd in 3:52.65. Jue went big on the front half and was five-and-a-half seconds ahead of Eijland mid-race, turning in 1:55.46. By the end of the breastroke leg, that had been whittled to an eight-tenths of a second lead, before Eijland finished the comeback on the freestyle leg. Jue’s aggressive racing was rewarded with a full second improvement on his previous personal best. Winston Liang and Lucas Huckabay, both 18-year-old seniors from the Clovis Swim Club, went 1-2 in the boys’ 100 breaststroke. Liang won in 54.00 and Huckabay was 2nd in 54.63. While they are club teammates, they swim for different schools in the upcoming high school season. Liang’s swim was a new personal best. 17-year-old Alex Pletcher won the boys’ 200 free in 1:35.14, about a half-second improvement on his previous best. He later won the 100 fly in 47.95, just beating out former Stanford swimmer Aaron Sequeira (47.97) and Cornell commit Nate Yoon (48.00). Both Pletcher and Yoon posted best times in that race. A Stanford commit, Pletcher also plays wide receiver and cornerback on Point Loma High School’s varsity football team. Kyle Tsuei from Novaquatics won the boys’ 50 back in 22.17. That race had five swimmers within half-a-second at the top of the race. Megan Wang won the girls’ 50 back in 24.91. That’s her second straight Sectionals title in that event – she also won in December in Walnut, California. Novaquatics won the girls’ 400 medley relay in 3:39.98, while Clovis won the boys’ 400 medley relay in 3:15.74.Read the full story on SwimSwam: Gabi Brito Wins 100 Fly In a New Personal Best at Oceanside Sectionals
