Day 3 of the 2026 MAC Championships saw Akron extend its lead over the competition following a number of top performances throughout the day.

The Zips picked up another series of records, breaking the Mid-American Conference record in the 200 free relay. The team of Callie Parkes [22.14], Ada Szwabinska [21.85], Felicia Klintemar [21.90] and Hannah Trainer [22.46] posted a time of 1:28.35 to shave just under two-tenths of a second off of the record, which previously stood at 1:28.54 and was last set by Akron in 2019.

In addition to taking down the conference record in the event, the quartet’s performance also broke the championship and pool records and hit the NCAA provisional standard.

Ohio’s team of Tori Wittenberg [22.94], Zita Szoke [21.29], Katie Buroker [22.72] and Jordan Claypoole [22.75] claimed the runner-up spot in the 200 free relay in 1:29.70, breaking a 15-year-old school record in the event.

Klintemar enjoyed a great session Friday night, as she also brought home a gold medal and a new meet record in the 100 fly. She stopped the clock in 51.35, knocking almost a full second off of her lifetime best and shaving .25 off of the championship record, which was previously set by Akron’s Abby Daniel (51.60) in 2024.

Szoke successfully defended her crown in the 200 free, winning her third-straight MAC title in the event with a time of 1:44.82, just off of her personal best (1:44.54), and punching her ticket to the NCAA Championships. Teammate Casadie DiBetta secured her own ticket to NCAAs shortly after, thanks to her runner-up finish in the 100 breast (59.78) which also marked a new program record.

The gold medal in the 100 breast went to Akron junior Claire Cox, who punched her first-ever ticket to NCAAs thanks to her winning time of 59.59.

Ball State’s Payton Kelly turned in a top performance in the 100 back, throwing down a time of 52.07 to clinch the championship title. That swim knocked .79 off of her lifetime best and earned her her second NCAA qualification of the meet.

Behind Kelly, Akron freshman Avery Knight delivered a huge personal performance, claiming the runner-up spot in 52.43 and dropping almost a second-and-a-half from her former lifetime best (53.72). Knight’s race was good enough to punch a ticket to the NCAA Championships.

Another freshman to turn in an eye-catching performance, Miami’s Gracie Gregory won the 400 IM in 4:16.83. Gregory’s swim knocked over three seconds off of her personal best and secured the Redhawks’ first victory of the meet.

Competition wraps up on Saturday, with Akron sitting comfortably in the lead as the teams head into the final day of racing.
