Jeff Probst Teases the Future of ‘Survivor’ Even If He’s Not the Host ...Middle East

News by : (Us magazine) -

After 50 seasons of Survivor, Jeff Probst still can’t get enough of hosting CBS’ iconic reality show.

“I mean, my blood is in this show, right? I literally bled for this show for nearly three decades,” Probst, 64, exclusively shared with Us Weekly ahead of the Survivor 50 premiere on Wednesday, February 25. “But 100 percent, this is not me saying something politically correct. The show should last forever, because the format is just an incredible format.”

Ever since season 1 aired in 2000, a group of castaways has agreed to inhabit an island where they are forced to compete against each other in a series of challenges. They must survive in order to win the $1 million prize.

As the show gears up to celebrate 50 seasons with a special all-star cast, Probst acknowledges that he may not be able to participate in every edition.

‘Survivor’ Season 50 Cast Revealed: Which Returning Players Are Competing?

“We stay inside the tiny little box that is the format of Survivor, but once you step inside that tiny little box, you realize the space is enormous,” Probst explained. “You can try all kinds of things. So, for instance, if you hired a different type of person to host, and then you brought in a different type of person to produce, and you took their different points of view, it seems likely that the show would go in a completely different direction.”

He continued, “I really do think it goes on, and I hope that even if I’m not hosting, maybe there’s a way I can, you know, still be involved because I love this show.”

For now, Probst and the entire crew are ready to celebrate a milestone season with iconic players who have played the game.

Season 50 features unforgettable competitors like Cirie Fields, Ozzy Lusth, Savannah Louie and Dee Valladares.

“We started with just a group. We said, ‘All right, who would we be happy seeing on 50,’ and that group was large,” Probst recalled. “It was, like, 200 people. Then we got down to 100 and then we just asked the question, ‘What is it we’re looking for?’ And I kept saying, ‘I want to celebrate.’”

One person Probst was really hoping to see again was season 1 and season 8 contestant Jenna Lewis-Dougherty.

“I wanted an OG. There were other season 1 players we could ask, but Jenna was the one I wanted because it’s been so long and her story always stuck with me,” he explained. “This person comes out to play this new game, and she’s the one person who doesn’t get her loved one video. And it just always kind of stayed with me that that was one of the moments when you realize Survivor is real.”

Probst also named a more recent contestant who had found success far beyond Survivor. For the Emmy-winning host, seeing White Lotus creator and Survivor season 37 alum Mike White return to the game would be extra special.

“The other one, as a bookend, was Mike White,” Probst explained. “I thought if Mike — given where his life is — says yes to this, then it says there’s something about Survivor that you can’t get even if you’re the biggest thing in Hollywood.”

Survivor airs on CBS Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
